BWHC is staffed by two certified nurse-midwives who are educated in the two professions of nursing and midwifery. They are registered nurses with advanced education who must pass a national certification exam. They provide prenatal care, childbirth, and postpartum care as well as family planning and gynecological care. A registered nurse is on call to assist with births and postpartum care.

Lois Yoder
Director, CNM, APRN
She fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse-midwife in 1982 when she graduated from the Nurse Midwifery Education Program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Lois is a seasoned midwife with experience that includes 17 years in South America as a rural missionary. She has attended 3,400 births and still loves mothers and babies.
Angel Schmutz
CNM, APRN
Is a 2003 graduate of KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS with a master’s degree in nurse-midwifery. She has 6 years of experience as a hospital labor and delivery nurse. Angel is the mother of 4 children. She is married to Reverend Rob Schmutz, a Nazarene Evangelist. Angel and Rob have built their home in the Yoder, KS area.
Rosina Schmucker
RN
Has worked as an EMT and CNA during her nursing school, which included working in a 50 bed maternity unit at Harrisburg Hospital for over a year. After graduating in 2005 she worked as a medical-surgical nurse in Wichita before joining the Birth Center staff in 2007. She is also a Certified Breastfeeding Educator. Rosina, her husband William, and their four children live in Medicine Lodge, KS.
Paula Yoder
Administrative Assistant
She came to the Birth Center in Sept. 2009, bringing with her several years of secretarial experience as well as experience in infant, child & elder care. She also taught missionary children in east Africa for more than eight years. Paula’s interest in healthcare grew as she observed the maternity & medical care available in Eastern Africa.
Amanda Eash
RN
Amanda, one of our Registered Nurses, graduated from Hesston College in 2013. She then spent 1.5 years as a med-surg nurse in a hospital setting, and is currently working in the clinic setting as an endoscopy nurse. She joined the Birthing Center in 2017. Amanda, her husband Tyler, and their two children live in Partridge, KS. She enjoys coaching softball, being outdoors, and spending time with her family.
Sonday McGinnis
RN
After completing her registered nursing program, Sonday began a new graduate program for labor and delivery in 2012 at Providence St Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California. She continued there until 2017 when her family decided to move to Newton, KS. She and her husband, who is a Presbyterian pastor, have 3 children. Their youngest child is 15 months old.
Rosene Yoder
RN
Rosene grew up on a farm in Kansas, the oldest daughter of seven children. Her three youngest siblings were born at home, which sparked her interest in midwifery. She worked alongside Lois and Angel as secretary at the Birth and Women’s Health Center from 2007-2009, getting to know clients and their families from an office viewpoint. She then spent 3 ½ years in Thailand, caring for orphaned children in foster care. After returning to the States she graduated with her Associates Degree in Nursing in 2016. She spent the first year and a half on a telemetry unit, and in July 2018 took a new position on pediatrics and labor & delivery. She especially loves infants and toddlers, and enjoys watching families grow and bond.
